Charlotte Hornets: Pre 2019 NBA Draft Round-Table Discussion
By De White
Do you expect any draft day trades?
Vincent: During any NBA Draft there will be trades. The Hornets have not made any trades in the first round as of late, as the last time they did it was when they traded away their first-round pick for Marco Belinelli in 2016. The Hornets have expressed interest in trading up in the draft, so it will be interesting to see if they can pull off a draft day trade.
Caleb: I would love a draft day trade, but I do not expect it. The Hornets do no try enough for big roster moves like that, which is why they have been mediocre at best for the entire 30 years of existence. A trade for a number 5 pick to land a guy like Cam Reddish can mean all of the difference in the world to this team but we will have to see if they can rise to the occasion, literally.
Filippo: It is probable we are active on draft night, we may be one of the most active team among the league. The #12 pick is a good asset if we want to move our bad contracts, the #36 has some value too. I just do not see us moving up in the draft, it is not worth the gamble. I would really like to stay with the pick we have, and maybe trying to save space with trading contracts or future picks.
Elijah: Charlotte may try to move up or down one or two places, but I think if they do make a trade, it’ll be in the second round. I’m not sure what assets they have that other teams would want in the first round.
Zack: Yes, I am expecting a lot of activity from multiple teams during the NBA Draft. I could easily see the Hornets move down in the draft. They’d love to get off of a bad contract, and they could make that happen if they surrender the 12th overall pick. This is a very deep draft class, so if they do move down and acquire a later pick, they should still be able to land a good prospect.
De: I fully expect a move on draft day from us. The team wants to move up and I’m sure that’ll probably cost us a good young player and/or a few picks this year and next, but I’m honestly prepared for that. I could also see us moving down and getting a few more picks. I’m cool either way. But if we move up, I think Clarke is the guy.
