Charlotte Hornets: Los Angeles Lakers to target Kemba Walker in Free Agency
The Los Angeles Lakers shocked the NBA on Saturday after they traded for Anthony Davis. Rumors now indicate that the Lakers will target Charlotte Hornets’ star, Kemba Walker in free agency.
After a blockbuster trade on Saturday, the Charlotte Hornets found out that they have a strong competitor when it comes to re-signing Kemba Walker. Rumors now indicate that the Los Angeles Lakers will look to strongly pursue Walker during free agency.
Right after the trade, New York Times’ writer Mark Stein reported that “Kemba Walker will be a top target in free agency.” This report from Stein came from a few league sources.
These rumors surfaced after the Lakers traded away three key players in order to get Anthony Davis. One of the players included in the trade was Lakers’ franchise point-guard, Lonzo Ball.
It’s easy to see why the Lakers would be interested in Kemba Walker, as he put up career numbers last season. As he averaged a clean 25.6 points per game for the Hornets, he also broke many franchise records.
These rumors may make a lot of fans worry, but rest assure, Walker stated that the Hornets were his “first-priority” in free agency. While the Hornets are #1 on his list, Charlotte must keep this feeling mutual.
Walker is so devoted to the team that drafted him, that he even said that he would take less money in order to stay in Charlotte. In today’s NBA, that’s a lot of commitment and loyalty coming from a player.
Fans should monitor the offseason because if Walker was to join the Lakers, he would also be pairing up with Lebron James. It’s going to be hard to convince Walker to not become part of a big three, but fans will need to trust General Manager Mitch Kupchak to come up with a deal.
With the NBA Draft occurring this upcoming week, the Hornets should look to draft a player who can help the team. If there’s one thing that the Hornets need, it’s some help for Walker if he decides to re-sign.
