The Charlotte Hornets have two second round picks in this upcoming draft. Could one of them be used on the brother of a current NBA player?

The Charlotte Hornets are set to host a double Draft Workout on Tuesday, and one of the players participating is Matur Maker. This prospect is an international player, and he is also the brother of NBA center, Thon Maker.

Matur Maker is 21 years old, and his birthday will occur in January. He has a lot of raw talent that could be improved if he finds himself with the right coaches. As a big man, Maker has a variety of skills that he can help a team.

About Matur Maker

Height: 6’10”

Weight: 210 pounds

Wingspan: 7’3

2018-19 stats: 12.9 points, 9.59  rebounds, 1.1 blocks, 50% FG, 26.0 minutes

Strengths

  • Great size and length
  • Great stretch big potential
  • Strong finisher around the rim
  • Potential to shoot from almost anywhere
  • Great rebounder on both sides of the court
  • Nice shot-blocker

Weaknesses

  • Needs to put on some more muscle
  • Possesses a raw offensive game
  • Must improve free throw percentage
  • Needs to continue to improve his basketball IQ
  • His outside shot needs some work
  • Could be focused more on defense

It will be interesting to see how Maker does in Tuesday’s workout with the Hornets, but it’s no secret that he definitely has second round talent. He did a lot of nice things last season for Zlatorog, his international team.

An interesting fact about him is that he was actually one of the top power forwards in his class before he decided to skip college to play professionally. While with Zlatorog, he averaged 12.9 points per game, proving that he could be a consistent scorer.

He also proved that he has the ability to be a decent shot-blocker with his 7’3 wingspan. He averaged 1.1 blocks per game. His defensive skills were enough to earn him 16 starts with his team.

I would recommend that he continues to improve his outside game as he only shot 27% from beyond the arc with Zlatorog. With that, he could also look to improve his free throw percentage; he shot 69% from the line.

His incredible wingspan gives him an advantage over other players when he is going after rebounds. His size allows him to play both frontcourt positions, but due to his weight, I would recommend that he stays at the four spot.

The Charlotte Hornets are looking for a player who could improve their frontcourt, and Maker would be an interesting prospect to take with one of their two second-round picks. If Charlotte does end up picking Maker, they would be getting a player who could progress nicely in the G-League.
