Charlotte Hornets: 5 realistic point guards who could replace Kemba Walker in free agency
No. 2 – Tyus Jones
Tyus Jones, the former Duke point guard, will be a restricted free agent this off-season, and it will be interesting to see if any teams try to pry him away from Minnesota. He’s a solid lead guard that can run a second unit, but Charlotte could be an opportunity for him to become a starter.
He’s another guard that makes really good decisions and takes care of the ball. He’s not a great outside shooter, but he is capable. He’s just simply a true floor general that deserves more playing time. I’m surprised Minnesota hasn’t gotten him more playing time during his career thus far.
In 2018-19, Jones averaged 6.9 points and 4.8 assists. He played 22.9 minutes per game, which was easily a career-high for him. His stats don’t jump off the page at you, but he’s a smart player that you can count on to get the job done.
It wouldn’t surprise me if a team overpays for Jones during Free Agency, forcing Minnesota to let him walk. He should have multiple suitors. I’m not sure if the Hornets would have any interest, but I think he would be a good pickup for them.
