Charlotte Hornets: 5 realistic point guards who could replace Kemba Walker in free agency
No. 1 – Delon Wright
With the Grizzlies drafting Ja Morant second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, you have to wonder if that could make Delon Wright available during Free Agency. Wright had a really good stretch for Memphis late in the season, and even had multiple triple-doubles. If Charlotte could land him, that would be a really good get.
Wright has great size for a point guard at 6’5″, which allows him to see over the defense and make reads. He’s not the greatest shooter, but he’s shown improvements and is a major threat on the drive. He’s a bit older at 27, considering he’s at the end of his rookie contract, but still, he’s a great talent.
In 26 games with the Grizzlies in 2018-19, Wright averaged 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He’s got good all-around ability at the point guard position, as well as pesky defense and good effort. I think Memphis would be smart to hang on to him, but Charlotte should at least show interest and give it a shot.
All five of these players are not Kemba Walker, but they would be solid replacements for the three time All-Star. If they do lose Walker in Free Agency, which is looking likely, it’s going to be interesting to see where the Charlotte Hornets go next.
