Cody Martin

Cody Martin. 11. 170. Scouting Report. G/F. player. Pick Analysis. 5.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists

Many fans didn’t like the Cody Martin pick during June’s 2019 NBA Draft, but I think that it was a smart selection. Martin is a versatile piece that can play and guard multiple positions on the floor. He’s going to fight and find a way to get minutes this season.

During Summer League, Martin averaged 8.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He’s really impressed me with his all-around ability. He can handle the ball, run an offense, shoot from the outside and defend. I think he has a place in this league and will be a valuable piece for a long time.

Being that he is such a versatile player, he should be able to find rotational minutes at some point during the season. Coach Borrego can use him in many different ways and in many different lineup combinations. He’ll likely also spend some time in the G-League, but it will be good for him to get some experience early into his career.

His twin brother, Caleb, also signed with the Hornets, but his roster spot isn’t guaranteed. Being a twin myself, I would love to see these two on the roster together to begin their NBA careers. I don’t think that Caleb will have the career that Cody will have, but I like both of them and think Charlotte would be wise to invest in both of them.

I’m telling you — Cody Martin will find a way to get minutes during the season. He’s going to force Borrego to use him thanks to that versatility.
