Charlotte Hornets: Predicting each players stats for the 2019-20 season
Willy Hernangomez
Willy Hernangomez is still a young and promising player that could see more minutes for the Charlotte Hornets this upcoming season. One thing is certain — when you put him on the floor, he’ll fill up the stat sheet really quick.
He’s pretty much a walking double-double when given the opportunity during his career with New York and Charlotte. Per-36 minutes last season, Hernangomez averaged 18.7 points and 13.8 rebounds. He’s always active around the rim and on the glass, but the big problem with him as always been his lack of defense.
Hernangomez gives up a lot of baskets, but he has shown a willingness to improve on that end of the floor. I thought he had some good moments during the 2018-19 season, but also some bad moments. If he can clean up that area of his game, he’d be tough to take off the floor.
I think this is going to be a critical season for Hernangomez. I’m expecting him to play well behind Cody Zeller and push James Borrego for more playing time. He’s gotten a lot stronger this summer and has continued to work on his perimeter shooting. He made 15 three-pointers last year, which was a career-high for him.
Don’t give up on Willy Hernangomez yet. He’s going to be a beast off the bench for the Charlotte Hornets in 2019-20.
