12 back-to-backs

It appears that the NBA is focused on reducing the number of back-to-backs, as teams will average 12.4 per game during the 2019-20 season. Last season, the average was at 13.3 per game. This is a change that will go unnoticed to some, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction rather than reducing the total number of games.

Last season, the Charlotte Hornets had 15 back-to-backs, but that number will go down for the 2019-20 season, as Charlotte will now have just 12 back-to-backs. The Hornets won just 25 percent of their back-to-backs and 36 percent of their three games in four nights back-to-back in 2018-19. We’ll see if they can make an improvement in that area.

The first back-to-back of the 2019-20 season for the Hornets will be against the Lakers and Clippers in games three and four of the season. The final back-to-back of the 2019-20 season will be against the Pelicans and Raptors in games 78 and 79 of the season.

Hopefully with the NBA slowly reducing the amount of back-to-backs, players can remain fresher throughout the grueling regular season. We’ve seen more and more teams use “load management” on star players during the season, but maybe lowering the back-to-backs will reduce that, even if it’s just by a little bit.
