His starting job

I am 99 percent sure that Marvin Williams will move to the bench for the 2019-20 season in favor of Miles Bridges. It’s not guaranteed, but it’s extremely likely. That doesn’t mean Williams should lay down, though. He’s got to go into training camp on a mission and try to hold onto his starting spot.

Williams is one of the more reliable players on the roster. He’s a veteran, he’s a team-first guy and he plays to his strengths. He’s a good stretch four that can defend. Williams averaged 10.1 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Charlotte Hornets last season and shot 37 percent from three.

Even if he is no longer a starter, Williams will still have an important role on this team, both on and off the court. He’ll be one of the first players off the bench and will be needed for production from the second unit. They also need his leadership off the court and in the locker room.

He will be a free agent after this season and could even be a trade candidate during the season. He’s on a reasonable contract and can help any playoff team with his shooting from the perimeter. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he gets shopped at some point during the 2019-20 season.
