Charlotte Hornets Training Camp: What’s on the line for each player
The opportunity of being a top scoring option
With the way the Charlotte Hornets roster is currently constructed, Dwayne Bacon may have the chance to be one of the go-to guys during the season. He can solidify himself in that role with a strong performance in training camp.
He played that role during Summer League and at least looked comfortable. I know, it’s Summer League, but it was a good sign. He averaged 15.0 points, but shot 39 percent from the floor. He’s got some work to do, but Bacon is willing to take on that role moving forward.
His performance in training camp could dictate the amount of shots coming his way during the 2019-20 season. When you lose your two top scorers (Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb), you’re going to need multiple players to step up and carry the load offensively. Maybe Bacon can be one of those main guys.
Bacon showed a great amount of improvement last season. He was out of the rotation early into the season, but became a key factor in Charlotte’s late season playoff quest. His contributions were clearly noticed after averaging 11.4 points in 27.4 minutes after the All-Star break.
I really think a breakout season could be on the horizon for Bacon. This will be an important training camp for him. By the end of the year, I think he could be one of the three best players on the roster.
