Charlotte Hornets: New addition Ahmed Hill has legit role player potential
Recently signed Two-Way player, Ahmed Hill, has the talent to potentially develop into a quality role player for the Charlotte Hornets in the future.
When the Charlotte Hornets signed undrafted guard Ahmed Hill to a Two-Way contract earlier this month, it caught many, including myself, off guard. It looked like Jalen McDaniels was going to get that Two-Way spot, but Hill came out of nowhere to claim the coveted position.
After not hearing his name called on June 20th of this year during the 2019 NBA Draft, Hill suited up for the Brooklyn Nets during Summer League. He averaged 6.8 points in 18.2 minutes while shooting 41 percent from three-point range.
Hill did have a pre-draft workout with the Hornets, but his name was not brought up again until the day he was signed. He must have left a lasting impression on the organization to be signed this close to training camp.

There’s one saying that always sticks with me when I am evaluating prospects at the collegiate or international level — “role players have decade long careers”. I feel like Hill could fit in that category and make a lot of money playing in the NBA or overseas. Hopefully he can find some early success in Charlotte.
He’ll be playing primarily in the G-League during the 2019-20 season, unless he ends up getting his Two-Way contract converted into a standard contract at some point during the season. If not, he can spent up to 45 days with the Charlotte Hornets during the G-League season.
Hill is coming off a strong, efficient senior season at Virginia Tech. He averaged 13.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 44 percent from the floor and 39 percent from deep. There’s a lot to like about his game.
First off, Hill is a great complimentary player. He doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective. He’s shown that he can spot up from the perimeter and guard multiple positions. He hit 230 three-pointers during his college career and hit 39 percent of them.

He’s also a good athlete that can get out in transition and finish on the break. He’s only 6’5″ and doesn’t have a long wingspan, but that doesn’t hurt him much on the defensive end. His instincts are a plus.
Yeah, Hill doesn’t have the highest upside in the world, but he has skills that translate to the next level. Every team, including the Charlotte Hornets, are looking for the next diamond in the rough. Hill has legit “3&D” upside that intrigues me enough to watch him very closely when he suits up for the Greensboro Swarm in 2019-20.

With the right development, I think that Hill has the talent to stick in the NBA. Who knows, maybe he’ll get some extra chances with the Charlotte Hornets during the season, considering they will be in rebuild mode and will be prioritizing the development of younger players.
