Borrego went on to tell the media that the four pillars for the team heading into next season are to compete, develope players, develope an identity, and develop winning habits.
In terms of developing winning habits, the Hornets are in the right place, as the team picked up Terry Rozier during the offseason. Rozier has not missed the playoffs for his entire career, and he saw much success with the Boston Celtics.
Coach Borrego went on to tell the media that Rozier is going to be getting minutes this upcoming season. Borrego also went on to say Rozier doesn’t have to come in saying, “I’m saving the day for the Charlotte Hornets.”
Even with the addition of Rozier, Borrego still told the media that he does not who the team’s go-to guy will be in close games. Borrego feels that this ill come from several players.
Coach Borrego told the media that he would like to see Dwayne Bacon develop into a good defender that can guard an opposing team’s top scorer. Borrego believes that Bacon has the ability to do this, as well as develop into an effective two-way player.
Nicolas Batum and Marvin Williams would also get praise from their head coach. Coach Borrego believes there is a spot on the team for both of them, and that the team needs them this upcoming season.
Coach Borrego expects camp will be competitive, as many players will be fighting to get more minutes. Borrego has “no idea” who the starters will be yet, so a lot of the team’s decisions will be made during the preseason.
The Hornets are set to begin camp this week, and they will play against their first preseason opponent. Charlotte will play the Boston Celtics on Sunday (10/6) on the road at 6:00 pm EST. This will be the first time fans will see Kemba Walker not wearing Hornets colors.
