The Charlotte Hornets’ training camp is underway, and one of their players has confidence that he was built for his possible role.

As Dwayne Bacon enters his third NBA season, he’s confident that he was built for a more significant role with the Charlotte Hornets. Bacon will be heading into next season with a likely starting role with the Hornets.

Bacon is seeking a starting role after the team lost key players over the offseason. The team needs a proven leader, and Bacon exemplified excellent leadership at the end of last season. Bacon’s leadership on the court with Kemba Walker helped lead the team to an 8-4 record in the team’s last twelve games.

In an interview on Wednesday, Bacon told the media that he’s always grinded for what he’s wanted. He also said that if he has a great year this year, that it’s going to be the same mentality next year. Bacon wants to continue to always get better.

Since joining the Hornets in 2017, Bacon has continued to work hard. According to the Charlotte Observer, Dwayne Bacon spending time in the G-League was not a punishment. It set his course to start for the team.

Since being drafted by the Hornets, Bacon has managed to put up 5.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Last season was the best season of his career, as he averaged 7.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Bacon has been seeking a starting role, and his performances from last season might be what helps him get this role. As a starter last season, Bacon was able to average 12.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Dwayne Bacon’s defensive skills have also been bragged on by Coach James Borrego. Fans should also remember the game-winning shot that Bacon prevented when he guarded Bradley Beal in the Hornets’ win against the Washington Wizards on March 8, 2019.

During media day on Monday, Coach Borrego stated that he wants to see Bacon develop into a great defender. Borrego believes that Bacon can do this, as well as develop into a capable two-way player.
