Helped: Caleb Martin

When he signed with the Charlotte Hornets during the off-season, Caleb Martin knew that he would have to fight for a spot on the roster. After not playing in Summer League due to an injury, many weren’t really sure what he was capable of.

After the conclusion of preseason, Martin played his way onto the roster (not officially, but it’s going to happen, barring a surprise) thanks to his strong play. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.6 minutes while coming off the bench.

Caleb, like his brother Cody, who was drafted by the Hornets, is a versatile piece to the puzzle. He can play and guard three different positions at 6’7″, while possessing athleticism that allows him to get to the basket and finish. He was one of the biggest standouts during preseason, for sure.

He’s likely going to spend a lot of time in the G-League during his rookie season, but seeing him play well against NBA competition this preseason is promising. He’ll get some chances as the season progresses, so let’s hope he can take advantage.

It’s rebuild mode in Charlotte, so they might as well see if they have something in Caleb Martin. If he can keep up this level of play, they just might. That will be a difficult task, of course.
