The Charlotte Hornets were clearly impressed with Caleb Martin in preseason, rewarding him with a three-year contract and a spot on the roster for the upcoming season.

It was apparent after preseason that Caleb Martin was a shoo-in for a final spot on the Charlotte Hornets roster. With the regular season days away, teams must trim their roster down to 15 players, along with two two-way players. Martin can breathe a sigh of relief now after receiving a contract.

The team announced the news yesterday afternoon. Ahmed Hill, who was on a Two-Way contract, was waived. Martin was then converted into a Two-Way contract, but that was just a necessary hurdle in order to get him on the main roster.

This move to the main roster comes after Martin averaged an impressive 9.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.6 minutes. He was Charlotte’s big surprise of the preseason and is absolutely deserving of this deal.

The deal is a three-year, partially guaranteed contract, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

I knew Martin was talented, but I wasn’t expecting him to take off so quickly during the preseason, especially considering he was coming off a knee injury that kept him out of Summer League play. He really made this an easy decision for the Charlotte Hornets.

Martin may have gotten some good playing time during the preseason, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which he gets rotational minutes to begin the regular season. He’ll likely spend some time with the Greensboro Swarm of the G-League, but he should get an opportunity with the big club at some point during the season.

Like I’ve mentioned before, the Hornets are in rebuild mode. Their will be opportunities for players up-and-down the roster, including Martin.

The Charlotte Hornets now have both Caleb and Cody Martin on their roster. They’ve played their entire lives together, so it’s pretty cool to also see them entering the NBA, the best league in the world, on the same team.

They are both worth developing, too. The Martin twins have intriguing skill sets that fit well in today’s NBA. Both Caleb and Cody can play and guard multiple positions on the court and could eventually turn into rotation players down the line

Cody was drafted by Charlotte with the 36th overall pick back in June, while Caleb went undrafted. They both played college basketball at North Carolina State and Nevada.

Next. Who helped themselves in preseason and who didn't. dark

It’s good to see Caleb Martin’s work pay off. He was one of the better players for the Charlotte Hornets in preseason. Let’s hope he can keep up this level of play going into the season.

The Charlotte Hornets may have found a diamond in the rough in Caleb Martin.
