Terry Rozier – 3.6 turnovers

Coming over from Boston and running a team for the very first time as a starting point guard, I think most people figured that Terry Rozier would initially struggle with taking care of the basketball. He’s done just that in the first five games, giving the ball away a whopping 3.6 times per game.

This number is way too high for a starting point guard, but I expect him to improve in this area as the season progresses. He’s playing in a brand new system with brand new teammates, and is still learning where and when his teammates want the ball. It’s all about repetition for him at this point.

He’s playing a lot of minutes, has the ball in his hands quite a lot and is still growing as a player. There’s going to be growing pains along the way, of course, but taking care of the ball should be one of the easier obstacles for him to overcome.

Rozier’s decision making has always been shaky, but I think he’s shown improvement in that area with the Charlotte Hornets. He’s playing at a slower pace and wants to get his teammates involved. I’m excited to get a look at him when he is fully comfortable within the offense.

Like I said, we’re just five games into the season, Rozier has plenty of time to turn this around. Taking care of the ball is a vital piece to the game, so let’s hope he can clean this up sooner rather than later.
