The Charlotte Hornets Two-Way Tracker will provide you with updates throughout the season on Robert Franks, Kobi Simmons and the Greensboro Swarm.

Well, the G-League season is officially underway, which means you’ll see quite a few Charlotte Hornets players be sent down on assignment throughout the course of the season. Robert Franks, who is on a Two-Way contract, made quite an impression in his season debut last night.

Franks finished up with 29 points on the night, adding eight rebounds in the process. He also hit five out of his six three-point attempts. If you watched him in college at Washington State, then you know how quickly it takes for Franks to heat up.

Let’s not forget that Franks broke a school record for three-pointers made in a game as a junior at Washington State, hitting 10-13 from deep in a game against California. He didn’t get quite that hot last night, but it was some stellar shooting, nonetheless.

More from Swarm and Sting

In the end, the Greensboro Swarm came away with the win, defeating the Erie Bayhawks with a final score of 122-108.

Kobi Simmons, Charlotte’s second Two-Way player, also had an encouraging debut, ending up with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. They were both great, but Franks stole the show with his sizzling shooting.

I’d say Franks was the best player on the floor for the Swarm. He has intriguing upside which makes me believe that he has a chance to be on a standard NBA contract one day. We’ll see how the rest of this season plays out, but this is a great performance to build off of.

Franks had some question marks going into the 2019 NBA Draft, and although he didn’t get drafted, it didn’t take long for Franks to come to an agreement with the Hornets. He has the size and shooting to play in the NBA, but will need to refine the rest of his game, as well as get stronger.

This is what the G-League and Two-Way contracts are for. Being on a Two-Way contract, Franks can spend up to 45 days with the Hornets during the G-League season. Barring any injuries, it’s hard to imagine him getting much opportunity with the big club until after the G-League season.

Despite that, he’ll have all the opportunity in the world when playing with the Swarm. With Charlotte’s G-League development prowess over the past year, you have to imagine Franks takes some strides in his game during the 2019-20 season.

This debut was certainly a good start for him and the Swarm. He’s going to be a guy to watch all season long. When he gets hot, he’s really fun to watch, but I’ll be paying attention to the little things during his first season as a professional.

Next. Robert Franks could be something next year. dark

Make sure you’re on the lookout for more G-League content during the season. With this season being all about development for the Charlotte Hornets, it makes sense to take another strong look at the Greensboro Swarm as well.
