Miles Bridges may have leaked them a day prior, but the Charlotte Hornets officially unveiled their 2019-20 City Edition Uniforms this morning.
We are currently three years into Nike’s eight year apparel contract with the NBA, and so far, we’ve seen a great variety of jersey designs for the Charlotte Hornets and the rest of the NBA teams.
Each team gets at least four different uniforms per season. That would be the Association, Icon, Statement and City uniforms. Charlotte has gotten a fifth uniform, the Classic edition, over the past three years as well.
So far this season, we’ve seen the Association, Icon, Statement and Classic in action, but have yet to see the City uniforms. Well, that will change very soon, as the Charlotte Hornets officially revealed their new City Uniform on Friday morning.
There it is! What do you think of this years City Uniform? Let us know on Twitter @SwarmnSting. The Hornets will wear these bad boys 15 times during the season, and will debut them on December 6th against the Brooklyn Nets.
They will wear them only five times at home, which is interesting. That means you will see these jerseys 10 times on the road.
Miles Bridges leaked them on Instagram yesterday, but that didn’t leave us with a clear image of them.
So, here’s my personal opinion on the jerseys — I’m just not feeling it. They may grow on me, but this is a big downgrade compared to Charlotte’s City Uniforms over the past two seasons, in my opinion.
I can say that for multiple teams, though, so Charlotte isn’t alone here. I wish the design was more creative. I mean, this is practically the Statement Uniform in grey rather than purple.
Nike has gotten very creative with some jerseys, so this is a major snoozer to me. Remember Charlotte’s very first City Uniform during the 2017-18 season? The black ones with the teal and purple zig zag design on the sides? Man, those were the best in the league, if you asked me.
Let’s get back to something like that for the 2020-21 season. I mean, this grey jersey is by no means horrible, but it certainly isn’t eye catching. If I were to rank Charlotte’s 2019-20 Uniform Kit, the City Edition would be dead last.
I’m one of those NBA uniform nerds, and sadly, I’ve been left disappointed with not only the Charlotte Hornets’ City Uniform, but with quite a few teams City Uniforms. Maybe these will grow on me, but for right now, I’m just not feeling it.
