Charlotte Hornets 2020 NBA Draft Monthly Big Board: December Edition
#41-50
*Stats provided as of 12/2/19
Tre Jones, the brother of NBA pro Tyus Jones, had his moments during his freshman season at Duke, but he looks like a completely different player as a sophomore. He’s now averaging 15.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists. He’s also one of the best perimeter defenders in college basketball. His ceiling isn’t as high as others, but you know what you will get from Tre.
Washington State sophomore CJ Elleby was drawing interest from NBA teams late in the draft process over the summer, but opted to go back to school. His three-point shooting percentage is way down (41% to 32 %) but his scoring is way up (14.7 PPG to 21.6 PPG). He’s not the best athlete, but he could be an offensive punch at the next level.
Robert Woodard II has put himself on draft radar after a strong start to his sophomore campaign at Mississippi State. After averaging 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds as a freshman, the 6’7″ guard is now up to 12.1 points and 8.3 rebounds. He’s also shooting 41 percent from downtown. If he can build off of this strong start, he’ll keep rising.
Anthony Edwards will get most of the attention in Georgia, and rightfully so, but they have another guy on their roster who could have a future in the league, and that is Rayshaun Hammonds. The junior forward continues to show consistent improvement, and is now averaging 14.1 points and 8.9 rebounds while shooting 33 percent from deep.
There’s lots of international talent in this draft class, and Amar Sylla could be a steal later in the draft. He’s still raw, but his length and athleticism will have teams intrigued. This season, Sylla is averaging 7.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 25.3 minutes.
LSU freshman Trendon Watford could easily rise from this ranking, as he has a ton of talent and a ton of season left to play. Watford is a lengthy wing prospect that plays both ends of the floor. He’s averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 29.9 minutes.
Gonzaga senior Killian Tillie has been on NBA radar for years now. His draft stock isn’t as high as it used to be due to injuries, but Tillie still looks like an NBA player, to me at least. He’s a floor spacing, third-string center at the very least. He’s having a nice bounce-back season, averaging 13.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in just 23.0 minutes.
Romeo Weems, a freshman for DePaul, has a lot of upside, and may benefit from some more time in school. However, he does have a enticing enough upside to where he could be drafted somewhere in the second round. So far, Weems is averaging 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
Keyontae Johnson has been very productive for the Gators to start this season, averaging 13.0 points and 6.4 rebounds in 29.3 minutes. He’s an elite-level athlete that is slowly developing a consistent jumper. If he can keep improving that shot, he’s got a chance to be very good.
TCU senior Desmond Bane has improved every season in college, and could be a legit NBA prospect after this season. He’s currently putting up averages of 18.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He’s got really good shooting skills, and promising playmaking skills.
