The trade rumors have arrived, and included in said rumors are Charlotte Hornets forward Marvin Williams. Here are five realistic returns for the veteran forward.

We are creeping up on December 15th, which is the date that previous free agents can be traded. Teams around the league are always discussing deals, but for the Charlotte Hornets, they have a player that is in the final season of his contract, and a player that could help contending teams.

That player is Marvin Williams. The 33 year old forward is being monitored closely by many teams around the league. A trade would make sense for both Williams and the Hornets, but due to salary requirements, only a handful of teams make sense as a trade partner.

Today, we’ll be looking at those teams and coming up with a realistic trade package from each team. These will all be teams that are contending for a playoff spot. Adding a stretch-four like Williams who can also guard on the perimeter could be a big add for any roster.

Now, let’s be honest, Williams won’t net the Hornets a massive return. The main goal in a potential deal should be landing a future asset. A first round draft pick would be great, but a second round draft pick will work as well.

Don’t expect to get the full kitchen sink in exchange for Marvin. He’s a good veteran, but being on an expiring contract, having a diminished role and being past his prime will have an impact on the overall haul.

On the season, Williams is averaging 7.6 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. He’s only playing 20.3 minutes due to the emergence of rookie PJ Washington as a starter.

At this point, I expect a Marvin Williams trade to happen at some point during the season. Could one of these trade packages work? Let’s get started and take a look at our first trade package, featuring the Brooklyn Nets.
