With trade speculation arising on Andre Iguodala, could the Charlotte Hornets be in the market for some defensive support?

As fans know, the defense has been a major issue for the Charlotte Hornets since the start of the 2019-20 season. With defense being an issue, it only makes sense to target someone who can fit Charlotte’s needs.

As of late, trade speculation has picked up, and one defensive forward/shooting guard caught my eye. Andre Iguodala is a prime candidate who could help the Hornets in many areas on defense.

One Twitter follower brought up the idea of the Hornets trading for Andre Iguodala. While I can see this trade working for both teams, I’m unsure if the Hornets would make this move.

More from Hornets News

Iguodala is a two-time all-defensive team player, who is currently on the Memphis Grizzlies. Since he was traded to the Grizzlies from the Golden State Warriors, Iguodala has refused to play for the team.

Iguodala has not had high scoring numbers in recent years, but his defense has proved to be an asset. In his career, Iguodala has averaged 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

As Iguodala has yet to play in a single game so far in his 16th season, the veteran still has the will to play. In the past five seasons, Igudola has only started in 21 games, establishing himself as a true bench player.

With Iguodala’s veteran experience off the bench, this could help the Hornets with their struggling defense.

With the defense that the Hornets have exhibited through thirty-six games, they have been ranked as one of the worst defenses in the league. As of now, the Hornets have a defensive rating of 112.6, which ranks them as the 27th team in the league.

While it’s unknown to if the Hornets will even target Iguodala, various media outlets have linked him to the Dallas Mavericks, who have not stated that they are targeting the veteran forward.

dark. Next. 3 players that could be traded by trade deadline

As the trade deadline continues to approach, I do not think the Hornets will target Iguodala, as he’s currently seeking to be on a playoff team. As of now, the Hornets are barely hanging on to a playoff race for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
