With a small break coming up, the Charlotte Hornets have the opportunity to make a trade without rushing any rotational changes.

As the Charlotte Hornets are set to take on the Denver Nuggets for the first time, the team will be getting a small break after the game. No matter the outcome of Wednesday’s game, the Hornets should look to make a trade.

The Hornets have remained static at the trade deadline as of late, not making any moves. The Hornets have yet to make a trade since the 2017-18 season when the team acquired Willy Hernangomez from the New York Knicks.

The NBA trade deadline is set on February 6th this year, so the Hornets do not have a lot of time. From now until the deadline, the Hornets will one stretch where they will have four days off.

The Hornets will start a four-day break following Wednesday night’s game against the Nuggets. This will be the last game the team plays until they play the Orlando Magic at home on January 20th.

To me, this is the perfect time for the Hornets to make a trade and not feel rushed.

Some teams will make a trade on game day or even during a game, but some teams like to do it without feeling rushed. Making a trade now would allow the Hornets to have time to acquire their new player, while also not being rushed to change their rotation.

The Hornets are currently on a five-game losing streak, and they may be ready to call it quits. However, the team remains in the 9th spot in the Eastern Conference, and they still have a slim shot at getting the 8th spot.

If Charlotte is looking to rebuild, then they will likely target a young player and picks, while also selling expiring contracts. If not, then I expect Charlotte to target a player that can help take them to the next level.

If the Hornets decide to wait until the trade deadline, then they will have a three-day break between February 5th-7th. This is still a possibility, but it makes sense for Charlotte to make one when they have the most time off.

There has not been a lot of trade speculation as of late for the Hornets, but I suspect Charlotte will keep what they have in mind a surprise for as long as possible. Whatever trade Charlotte makes, will likely determine how the rest of the season will play out.
