Be competitive but don’t jeopardize the draft position

We can all agree that the best avenue for the Charlotte Hornets to get better is through the draft. Having a top pick also helps a lot… usually, at least. At worst, it can’t hurt you to have a high pick by summertime.

The roster has a couple of really solid guys who you would like to have on a playoff team as they develop but they lack a true star. Devonte Graham can get close, seeing as he can score, play-make, and break down defenses but he lacks a mid-range game and a physicality at present that he needs to be a consistent lead all-star.

The draft this summer may be top-heavy, so attaining a top-pick could prove to be beneficial for the organization’s future.

With the new flat odds for the NBA draft lottery, you are not as capable of controlling your pick as you may have been before, however you should do your part to put yourself in the best position possible and live with the results.

A strategy of losing games in order to improve your draft pick sounds great for the organization that is looking to get better young talent, however that can send a bad message to the young players who are hungry to prove themselves in this league.

If you’re going to lose games then it would be nice to be close in those games to keep a competitive environment as best you can during a losing season.

Next. It's time to embrace the tank. dark

As you can see, these goals are not extensive or complicated. These goals can be, and already have started to be, implemented with the organization for the remainder of the season.
