As he’s coming off the bench, Caleb Martin has been turning the Charlotte Hornets’ heads with his recent success.

While the NBA’s regular season may be temporarily suspended, Charlotte Hornets fans should not forget how productive their undrafted rookie has been playing. Rookie Caleb Martin has continued to impress many with his stellar play off the bench.

Coming into the league, Caleb Martin started the year by playing for the Hornets’ G-League team, the Greensboro Swarm. Martin consistently played well with the Swarm, and that’s how he earned his spot on the regular roster.

Since joining the roster alongside his twin brother Cody Martin, Caleb Martin has gradually been receiving more minutes. Martin has given the Hornets some great minutes off the bench, and he’s playing himself into the Hornets’ future.

So far this season, Caleb Martin has averaged 6.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. With each passing game, Martin has continued to raise his averages across the board.

What’s been surprising is his terrific play before the NBA temporarily suspended the season. In Martin’s previous two games, he averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game.

Martin’s offensive game has been great so far, and he’s been doing some damage from behind the three-point line. In just 18 games played, Martin has already made 20 three-pointers, while shooting 54% on threes.

Martin’s three-point shot has been very consistent, and it seems to improve with each passing game. If the Hornets get to finish the rest of their regular season, then Martin should finish as the Hornets’ most accurate three-point shooter.

Moreover, Martin has also given the Hornets a lot of production on the defensive end of the court. Just like his brother Cody, Caleb has played a lot of high-awareness defense.

When the Hornets trailed by 20 points in their previous game against the Miami Heat, Caleb Martin’s impact could be felt. He finished the game with a career-high four steals, and with a plus/minus of +15.

Caleb Martin’s ability to play well on both sides of the court makes him an asset to the Charlotte Hornets. If he continues this impressive play, then he could see even more minutes in the future.
