Charlotte Hornets: Ranking the last ten first-round draft picks
Number 1
1. Kemba Walker (2011 Draft)
Out of every draft pick, Kemba Walker being #1 should not come as a surprise. Walker was the first player selected by Charlotte during the 2010s, and one of the team’s longest-tenured players.
Following the 2018-19 season, the Hornets were unable to re-sign Walker, and that led to him being included in a sign-and-trade deal that sent him to the Boston Celtics. During his time in Charlotte, Walker established himself as the greatest Hornet of all-time.
After spending eight seasons with the Hornets, Walker broke countless records. He’s currently the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer and all-time best three-point shooter with 1,283 made threes.
As a Hornet, Walker averaged 19.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Walker won the Sportsmanship Award twice with the Hornets, while also being named an All-Star for three consecutive seasons.
Walker left a legacy in Charlotte, and he will always be known as the Hornets’ all-time best player. No player has done half the things that he did with the Hornets, and this solidifies himself as the Hornets’ best draft pick of all-time.
As the Hornets continue to rebuild without Walker, fans may wonder if the Hornets will ever get another player like him. While the Hornets currently have a productive young core, there may be a positive future in the making for this franchise.
