Charlotte Hornets: Former pick Kobe Bryant to be inducted in Hall of Fame

As many expected, one of the Charlotte Hornets’ former draft picks will be rightfully inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

While fans await good news about the league, news about a former Charlotte Hornets’ draft pick made many happy. On Saturday, it was announced that Kobe Bryant would join two others in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

On Saturday, it was announced that Kobe Bryant would headline the 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Class. In this Hall of Fame Class, Bryant is joined by Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan.

The original Hall of Fame announcement comes as a delay after the NCAA Basketball Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. News about Bryant’s induction only comes months after he and his daughter were in a tragic helicopter accident with seven others.

Bryant is a former draft pick of the Hornets; he was drafted in 1996 and was later traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In this trade, the Hornets received Vlade Divac, who ended up spending two seasons in Charlotte.

Bryant’s legendary career was headlined by his five NBA Championships and other various awards. After twenty seasons with the Lakers, Bryant averaged 25.0 points, 4.7 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Looking back, Bryant never played a minute for the Hornets, but he will always be known as one of the Hornets’ best draft picks. Bryant was beloved by many and set a wonderful example for all.

Kobe Bryant ended his career with the best farewell game in NBA history, as he helped lead the Lakers to a comeback win over the Utah Jazz on April 13th, 2016; Bryant finished the game with sixty points.

As Bryant joins Garnett and Duncan in this year’s Hall of Fame Class, this will be something all fans can respect. These three players made a huge impact in the league, but Bryant left the biggest mark.
