And so we begin. Will your favorite pick make it to the end?

Without further ado, let’s get started.

1. Kemba Walker vs 16. Anthony Mason (95% – 5%)

This one ended up as lopsided as you would think, with Kemba taking nearly all the votes. Sure, Mason was instrumental for the Hornets during the mid-’90s, but he’s no Kemba. No surprises here.

2. Larry Johnson vs 15. Stephen Jackson (92.4% – 7.6%)

Though nearly as lopsided as the first matchup, I figured it would have been closer. Either way, “Grandmama” was always winning this one, despite Jackson helping lead the Bobcats to the playoffs in 2010.

3. Alonzo Mourning vs 14. Gerald Henderson (88.3% – 11.7%)

Henderson played six seasons in the Queen City and certainly helped the team during Kemba’s formative years, but he’s no ‘Zo. Sorry, Gerald, but Mourning is moving on.

4. Dell Curry vs 13. Eddie Jones (90.7% – 9.3%)

Eddie might have been the better overall player and if he had stayed in Charlotte longer, his seeding would be higher, but Dell is a Hornets icon and honestly, deserves to have his number retired.

5. Baron Davis vs 12. Al Jefferson (47.2% – 52.8%)

How fitting that in a poll ran through much of March, the number 12 seed takes down a number 5? I was a bit shocked at this one, but “Big Al” won his way into our hearts and is never leaving, despite Baron Davis being one of the best point guards the franchise has ever seen.

6. Gerald Wallace vs 11. Emeka Okafor (88.9% – 11.1%)

“Crash” vs the first-ever draft pick for the Charlotte Bobcats. I expected this one to be a bit closer. Okafor was a great player, especially on defense and on the boards, but Wallace’s toughness and grit helped earn him this one.

7. Glen Rice vs 10. Kendall Gill (84.8% – 15.2%)

I figured this one would be a lot more lopsided, but plenty of folks still remember how good Kendall Gill was. Still, he was never All-Star Game MVP, like Rice. He also didn’t average 27 a game like Rice, either, but he was a great player, nonetheless.

8. Jamal Mashburn vs 9. Muggsy Bogues (18.2% – 81.8%)

This one was the real shocker for me. Not because Muggsy isn’t a Charlotte institution at this point, but there are a lot of players who have better stats and have more accolades, including Mashburn. Despite that, his tenure and ability to overcome his diminutive stature have proven that no matter what era we’re in, Muggsy will always be a fan favorite. Plus, he was in Space Jam.

Well, our first round is set and there were a few surprises. That may end here, though, as the competition heats up in round two. Let’s have at it.
