Devonte’ Graham’s Coming Out Party
Charlotte Hornets @ New York Knicks | November 16, 2019
“Graham puts up a three, and oh! It’s good! It’s good! And Charlotte takes the lead with 2.1 remaining” The announcer can hardly contain his excitement. The ball clanks in as Devonte’ Graham caps off a 29 point outing with his ninth three of the night.
While Graham had already started making a name for himself early in the season, this game cemented his status in the league. If Graham has an “I Have Arrived” moment, this was it. This game came on the second night of a back-to-back when Malik Monk made an equally impressive game-winning three to put Charlotte over the Detroit Pistons.
Honorable Mention: Monk hits 3-pointer at the buzzer, Hornets beat Pistons 109-106
Graham’s play against the Knicks gave us a glimpse of the young guard’s potential. His ceiling is among the best shooters in the league. This performance came after a 2-of-12 night from deep for Graham against the Pistons. During a post-game interview, Graham said that his play was inspired by jokes from teammates like P.J. Washington regarding his showing the night before.
Later Graham would go on to participate in the 3-point contest at All-Star weekend in Chicago. By all accounts, Graham is a stand-up character. He certainly is tough to root against and the type of player you love to see have a night like this.
