Predicting what would have been the Charlotte Hornets’ final record
First off, we’ll take a look at the remaining Eastern Conference opponents.
Miami Heat – March 30th and April 13th
Given that the two teams had already split the last two meetings, I will give the next two to Miami. The Heat are fighting for a top-four spot in the Eastern Conference and with the Hornets having one of the worst home records in the conference and the Heat having the third-best home record in the East, I say the Heat win both their home and away games against Charlotte.
Orlando Magic – March 15th and April 1st
Historically, these two squads are neck and neck in terms of wins and losses against each other, but with the Hornets losing both home meetings against the Magic, I see them only winning one on the road. Orlando is trying to get a higher seed for the playoffs, so they’ll be looking to win as many as they can. The Magic win the season series over the Hornets for the first time since 2012.
Atlanta Hawks – April 3rd and April 5th
I have these teams splitting the last two, with each home team getting the dub. Unfortunately, that means the Hawks will take the series, three games to four, winning it for the first time since the 2015-2016 season.
Philadelphia 76ers – March 19 and April 15th
Would you believe that the Hornets have an all-time winning record against the 76ers? Sadly, that won’t help them this season, but they will avoid being swept in the series for the third straight year as the 76ers god-awful road record comes back to bite them Thursday night in March. The Hornets still lose the series, however.
Washington Wizards – April 11th
Hey look, another team the Hornets have an all-time winning record against. They’ll keep that going as the Hornets defeat the Wizards at home, tieing the season series and avoiding losing it outright for the first time since the 2011-212 season.
New York Knicks – March 17th
It’s been almost 15 years since a Charlotte franchise has swept the season series over the Knicks. It will have to wait another year as New York wins at home over the Hornets in front of a mostly empty Madison Square Garden.
Cleveland Cavaliers – March 13th
This was supposed to be the Hornets’ next contest before the season was postponed. Cleveland is in full tank mode and it shows as Charlotte obliterates them at home in, winning the season series for the second-straight year.
Toronto Raptors – April 8th
Toronto, still licking its wounds from a 99-96 defeat at the hands of the Hornets back in February, decides to remind Charlotte who still holds the NBA title, handling them easily away from the confines of Canada, thus avoiding losing the series for the second straight season.
Well, the East is all wrapped up. Let’s head out West and see how the Charlotte Hornets fare.
