The season has finally come to an end, at least in this simulation. In reality, it might actually end with an asterisk, but we have this for now.
Coming into this section of the season, Charlotte’s remaining strength of schedule was tied with the Miami Heat for the fourth easiest in the league. Still, it didn’t help much and many knew this would be the case.
Charlotte had 17 games remaining on their schedule. Their record over that span would be 6-11, giving them a final record of 29-53, which is about where many of our writers had them before the start of the season.
It was always going to be a weak team, but there were some highlights, for sure. This is a team full of young, up-and-coming players that have a lot of promise and if things can go right in free agency and the draft, it won’t be long before Charlotte has a winning squad again.
Who knows how the next few months will unfold? Will the regular season actually continue? Or, will the league decide to just skip straight to the playoffs? If so, will those be an abridged version or will they go the full route? Will they just simply move on to next year.
Whatever comes, the Charlotte Hornets have an exciting roster and while most people will just shrug them off as yet another basement dweller, I feel like Charlotte’s time is coming. I mean, it’s been so long since the team has been consistently competitive, so why not?
Until then, the diehards will follow the team no matter what, whether the team is a 6th seed in the East or hoping to snag the number 1 pick in the draft. At some point down the road, we’ll all look back on this time in sports and truly appreciate something so trivial and how it can affect our day-to-day lives.
For the Charlotte Hornets, they may just be looking back at the first steps towards an NBA dynasty.
