While the team missed the postseason for the fourth-straight year, there were a few positive highlights here and there and these three wins are surely up there with the best.

There might not be much on which to hang their proverbial hats right now, but this Charlotte Hornets squad does show promise with a talented nucleus of young fellows and seasoned role players.

If I were to include just one more game as an honorable mention, it would have to be the 123-120 overtime win over the Dallas Mavericks back on January 4th. It was in Dallas, so there’s that. It went into overtime so that obviously makes it even more substantial.

And Luka Doncic had a nice night, snagging his customary triple-double, scoring 39 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. The main knock on this one was that it shouldn’t have even gone to overtime as the Hornets sported a 20-point advantage at one point, only to let the Mavs drop 40 in the third quarter to make it interesting.

Overtime may make it exciting, yes, but they could have easily lost that game had it not been for the sheer amount of free-throws they shot in the second half. This win wasn’t as dominant as the other three, but the gut-check that the Hornets weathered very nearly put it in the list. Not to mention that at the time, the Mavericks were barely over .500 at home, making it slightly less impressive.

These three wins (and honorable mention) should prove to this eager squad that they could potentially make a run at the postseason in a year or two. They took four of the best teams in the league to task, three of which were on the road.

If these wins are anything to go by, Charlotte may just be farther ahead than most fans think. Then again, it’s not like they didn’t have their fair share of ugly losses, either. Still, I feel like this team’s time is coming. All we have to do is wait.
