As free agency approaches, both back-up centers for the Charlotte Hornets have talked about their future with the team.

Heading into free agency this year, the Charlotte Hornets will have to make a tough decision with both of their back-up centers. When free agency opens, Willy Hernangomez and Bismack Biyombo are set to become unrestricted free agents.

On Wednesday, players spoke to the media as part of their post-season interviews. During this time, Hernangomez and Biyombo had the chance to speak about the team.

More from Swarm and Sting

Hernangomez started by saying that he feels like Charlotte is his home. Hernangomez said that he feels like it will be a long summer, but he also noted that he wants to stay with the Hornets. Hernangomez closed by saying he believed things finally started to click, and that the team was having fun.

During this season, Hernangomez saw all of his court time while coming off the bench. While only appearing in 31 games, he averaged 6.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Moreover, when Biyombo spoke, he told the media that he was excited about the development of the Hornets’ current group of players. He also stated that the Hornets should’ve been one of the teams playing in Orlando.

Biyombo did not discuss free agency a lot, but he did tell the media that he felt a lot of chemistry with the team this season. Biyombo’s thoughts on the team could infer that he wants to be with Charlotte moving forward.

Biyombo spent a majority of the season switching between the bench and the starting lineup. He finished the season by averaging 7.4 points (new career-high) and 5.8 rebounds per game.

While both centers will become free agents, the team must make a decision on who will be re-signed. It’s unclear which center the team favors more, as Coach James Borrego experimented with a few different rotations this season.

However, there’s even a chance that the team will not sign either of them. Moving forward, the Hornets could be looking at a tough offseason.
