Youth Development

During the 2019-20 season, the Hornets saw so much development from their younger players. With this fast development, it has come to a surprise to fans, as they have not been used to it happening this fast in the past.

In just one season, Devonte’ Graham proved how fast one player could be developed. Since his rookie season, Graham has raised his points per game by 13.5 and his assists by 4.9. Graham even showcased his three-point shooting by finishing the season with 218 made threes. Miles Bridges joined Graham in development, as we saw him gradually improve from last season.

Even though Terry Rozier is not necessarily really young, he proved that he developed nicely from last season too.  Rozier finished the season by averaging 18.0 points per game, making him the team’s second-leading scorer.

PJ Washington showed a lot of promise during this rookie season. Washington finished this season by averaging 12.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. His performance was easily the best by a Hornets’ rookie since Kemba Walker. Fans can expect Washington to continue his role in the starting lineup since he closed his rookie season as a starter.

Toward the end of the season, Cody Martin and Caleb Martin made strides, as they received more minutes. Jalen McDaniels also started to receive a lot more playing time after Marvin Williams left Charlotte.

With the increased development of these young players, fans should be excited for next season, as they will all receive even more opportunities. Moreover, we must hope that the NBA’s hiatus did not hinder the development of the Hornets’ young players.
