Charlotte Hornets’ Best and Worst Jerseys in Franchise History
By River Rhodes
And now for the good stuff.
Charlotte Hornets’ Best Jerseys
1988-2002 Away Jerseys
Of all of the great jerseys that came out of the Hornets’ first stint in Charlotte, these might be the best. They feature everything people love about Hornets’ uniforms, a beautiful team background, stunning pinstripes, and the deep purple and bright blue filling in those stripes. Unlike the Cougars’ jerseys, these also bring up nostalgia for a time fans might want to remember. Watching the likes of Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourning tear it up in these singlets was a sight to behold.
2017-2018 City Jerseys
Sleek, Modern, and in my opinion, one of the best iterations of the NBA’s “city jersey” line. There was a version of these back when Adidas was the official brand of Hornets’ gear, but they scrapped those before they were released. These, however, are part of Michael Jordan’s Jumpman line and frankly, are as fresh as Will Smith, circa 1992.
They didn’t exactly help the team get into the playoffs, but even when they lost, they looked stylish doing so. The team would unveil a sleeveless version the next season, but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as unique or attractive.
2019-2020 Purple Throwback Jersey
These, too, harken back to a time when things were much simpler and the Charlotte Hornets were a household name. You have the familiar pinstripe, including the traditional colors. You have the coolest shade of purple out there. And the trim fit has a contemporary and slimline look.
This one too wasn’t the best of luck to the guys in Charlotte, but it certainly looked good and for fans, it could go with just about everything. When you think of the Charlotte Hornets, these jerseys are surely some of the first to come to mind.
Well, there you have it. You have the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Who knows what kind of jerseys the future will bring, but whatever they may look like, let’s just hope they can bring the team some wins.
