The Charlotte Hornets are still in the process of a rebuild and a center seems to be at the forefront of most fans’ minds. Is it really a good idea to pursue one in free agency?

While looking at the Charlotte Hornets roster there are a few holes that pop out, but arguably the most glaring one may be the need for a center. Yes, the Hornets have three capable rotation bigs with Cody Zeller, Bismack Biyombo, and Willy Hernangomez, but if this team is serious about competing for a championship in the future, the center position will need to be addressed.

Easy right? There is a solid free-agent center class with Montrezl Harrell, Hassan Whiteside, and (possibly), Andre Drummond, just sign one of those players right?

Signing just one of those big names could help give the team a bit more star power, possibly some added rim protection, and more scoring than they’ve had in a long time, so why not take a chance?

No. It is not as black and white as that. Splashing the cash on a top free-agent center is something the team should not do. In this article, I will be touching on three reasons why the Hornets should avoid doing exactly that.
