Disgruntled Chris Paul is dealt to Clippers in blockbuster trade

The full trade involved a superstar in Chris Paul and two second-round picks from the Hornets for Al-Farouq Aminu, Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, and the rights to the Clippers 2012 first-round pick, which ended up being Austin Rivers.

Chris Paul had expressed his interest in playing elsewhere and the Hornets only him on contract for a few more season. Paul was shipped to the Clippers where he formed the beloved ‘Lob City’ team with dunk phenoms Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan.

The Hornets helped Chris Paul hit his true stardom

As we know, Paul became one of the best passers of the decade with Los Angeles and made several All-Star teams. Paul had a really good half dozen seasons with the Clippers before being dealt to Houston. Paul and Rockets star James Harden didn’t get along and once again he was trade, this time to OKC. Paul is still carving up players on the court and was a really great leader for the young Oklahoma City Thunder last season, where he led them to the playoffs.

The Hornets did get alot of assets in this trade but seeing how much better Chris Paul got, the Hornets definitely should have looked at other trade options. The haul was mostly disappointing and did nothing for the future of the Hornets.

The only player that panned out for the Hornets was Eric Gordon. Gordon was a decent player for the Hornets and stayed with the team for about five years before leaving Charlotte for Houston. Aminu and Kaman left after the season and at best both were mediocre.

The Hornets could have got better assets for star Chris Paul making it a horrible trade for the Hornets future.
