Charlotte Hornets: Tik Tok star has crazy rebuild idea for Hornets
Tik Tok star has a crazy idea for how the Charlotte Hornets can rebuild their franchise.
The Charlotte Hornets need to make major moves this offseason to become a serious contender in next year’s playoffs. Charlotte can make a major post-season push and somethings need to be shaken up within the team.
Tik Tok star Matthew Sponhour made a video on his “outlandish” ideas for how the Charlotte Hornets should rebuild these next few seasons.
For those unable to watch the video here is his statement from the Tik Tok from Tik Toker Matthew Sponhour about the Charlotte Hornets:
"“I’m a Hornets fan and I just came up with an amazing idea for our team. We have no shot at winning a real title, I think everybody knows this about the Hornets. So what’s stopping us from sending our entire starting roster straight down to the G-League? I mean we could probably end up winning the G-League title or whatever it is and that would be the best accomplishment we’ve ever had. And I know people would tune in to watch it too, it’d get great ratings, ’cause you’d get to see Cody Zeller drop 50 a night like he’s prime Kareem. So then while our G-League team is trying to complete a three-peat, we could have our G-League players in the real NBA, helping us tank. So if any of ya’ll know Michael Jordan, the team owner, could you please tell him that Matthew’s got really good ideas and that you need to get him in the front office now.”"
Now let’s analyze these ideas as serious and determine if this would actually work.
Firstly, I don’t think the Hornets NBA roster would really appreciate the fact that they’d be moved down to the Greensboro Swarm.
Firstly the development of the Greensboro Swarm would absolutely be beneficial. There a quite a few talented players on the Swarm’s roster and putting into a full-time NBA role would propel them into development that the G-League can only imagine.
The Swarm even has six players averaging over 15 points per game including Dwayne Bacon who averages 31 points per game, Caleb Martin who averages 21 points per game while shooting 46 percent and even Robert Franks who averages 18 points per game.
I’m sure Bacon, Franks and Martin would benefit from playing against great NBA rosters. Putting them against the best of the Eastern Conference would heighten their skills to new levels.
Matthew Sponhour’s idea would guarantee the Charlotte Hornets to get top draft picks year after year.
Now, this would practically ensure that the team tanks and gets a top-five pick every year that this proposal happens. This could add quite a few explosive young rookies to the roster and ensure a roster full of great talents for years to come. These picks could be flipped over a period of time and one day maybe we could even entice superstar Charlotte native Stephen Curry.
Instead of moving these explosive rookies to the G-League, you could keep stellar ones like LaMelo Ball on the Hornets roster and see what kind of development they can have against the best players in the league. Whenever they become amazing in the league then you can ship them down to the Swarm.
The Hornets roster would be fairly upset and feel as if it was a slap to the face and Charlotte wouldn’t be able to retain all of those players.
The veteran Swarm roster would likely win at least two NBA G-League championships which would do wonders for the Swarm’s finances and after a few years of experimenting, then you combine the best of the two rosters. Obviously, this would create a G-League dynasty that other teams could only wish to do, so in a way, the Hornets would set the president of how to create a successful G-League team.
The Swarm would do amazing and could be the pinnacle of how teams develop their young talents. By reversing the Hornets and Swarm’s roster, you could surprise the league and generate development for both organizations.
