With the number three pick, the Charlotte Hornets have quite a lot of trading power this offseason, and the Hornets should be monitoring All-Star Rudy Gobert.
Rudy Gobert is by far, one of the best defensive pieces in the NBA, and the Charlotte Hornets should be monitoring him this offseason. Gobert’s dominance on defense has him with a couple of defensive awards and has him regarded as one the best big-men on defense.
Gobert currently averages ten defensive rebounds(13 in total) and even two blocks per game. Gobert even averages almost one steal per game which really solidifies him as a defensive centerpiece.
Gobert isn’t only valuable on the defensive side of the ball as he also averages 15 points per game at nearly 70 percent shooting from the field.
Gobert has been in the trade rumors for a few summers in a row now. Gobert is likely on the trading block this offseason due to the detrimental relationship between him and young star Donovan Mitchell. The Utah Jazz really loves and is going all-in on Mitchell, and even after the basketball COVID-19 outbreak fiasco, the relationship is likely still soured. Rudy Gobert was the first player to test positive for the coronavirus before the entire league was suspended.
The Jazz stars had reportedly a lot of friction between the two of them before Gobert spread COVD-19 within Utah’s lockerroom. Even though ESPN reported that the two are ready to “move forward”, it’s likely that the star’s relationship is still strained.
I wouldn’t doubt if the two still don’t see eye-to-eye. Tim MacMahon of ESPN stated the following:
"“But when their strained relationship following the positive tests lingered in public view for months, it increased the intensity of their issues and put a spotlight on an already-tense dynamic. It’s a spotlight that was created because, according to sources, Mitchell blamed Gobert for infecting him with COVID-19.”"
With the Jazz lockerroom full of tension, Utah may be shopping Gobert and the team can ask for a pretty penny for the star center.
