Should the Charlotte Hornets target Harry Giles III in free agency?
With free agency a month away, will the Charlotte Hornets consider going after a center?
The Charlotte Hornets will head into free agency this year with a few needs. While the team has the third pick in the draft, the Hornets will still be looking for ways to improve their team.
Moving forward, a need for the Hornets will be the center position. Moreover, when free agency starts, Willy Hernangomez and Bismack Biyombo will become unrestricted free agents, leaving Cody Zeller as the lone center on the team.

If the team decides to go after one, it will be because of their draft results from this year’s draft. The Hornets could decide not to sign a center if they target this position in the draft.
If the Hornets end the draft without taking a center, the team may sign Harry Giles III in free agency. Giles is a center who initially spent the first two seasons of his career with the Sacramento Kings.
Giles was drafted by the Kings with the 20th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Following being drafted, Giles played his first year as a pro in the G-League. Giles then went on to have a stellar rookie season, averaging 7.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the Kings during the 2018-19 season.
During this past season, Giles saw a small increase in minutes. His scoring production remained similar to his rookie season, but he did improve in the rebounding department. Giles appeared in 46 games for the Kings while starting in 17 of them.
Giles is not viewed as a “high value” free agent, meaning the Hornets would be able to get him on a good deal. The Hornets will enter free agency with about $30 million available in cap space.
If the Hornets sign Giles, then fans could expect to see him come off the bench behind Zeller. If this does not happen, then Giles could compete for the starting job against him.
The Charlotte Hornets have an opportunity to improve their young team this offseason significantly. As the team heads into free agency, fans will want to monitor Harry Giles III.
