LaMelo Ball is nothing short of a high school prospect celebrity. After the rise of Lonzo Ball, the limelight hit the Ball family where audiences couldn’t get enough of a cocky LaMelo Ball and a ludicrous Lavar Ball.

LaMelo, despite the bad attention, is definitely a really talented player. His playmaking is that of a five-year veteran, his scoring in the pain is fairly efficient, he’s the real deal. Ball is good defensively as well and with his height at the guard position seven rebounds with his 17 rebounds per game.

LaMelo is a commodity that small-market teams definitely need and the Hornets would be insane not to consider him their number three overall pick.

What is the biggest concern with LaMelo Ball’s game for the Charlotte Hornets?

No, Lamelo’s father Lavar is not a concern. Sure his platform would make his criticism reach a wider audience than the everyday fan but ultimately Lavar is going to get Charlotte more media attention.

That being said it has to be a his shot technique. While he didn’t shoot great in Australia it’s only because of his technique, not his shot choices(there’s a big difference).  Ball is a fairly good shooter from everywhere on the floor, which is where his overconfidence comes in, BUT his technique is one of an underdeveloped high school player.

Ball’s shot hasn’t evolved at all and it will likely be problematic as it was for Lonzo. It did take Lonzo a couple of seasons to really work on his technique in a way where it was more natural, but changing a player’s shooting technique is a huge risk. Even though coaches can work on his form until the sun comes down, it’s a real concern for Charlotte to remember.
