Trading the pick away does mean the team will miss out on the great prospects available. Any of them can add their own respective talents to the roster and to miss out on players with undefined ceilings is a risk.

Missing out on a player like Anthony Edwards is a legitamate concern due to how dominate he was for the Bulldogs in the SEC. For freaks of nature like Edwards and Wiseman, passing up on the players could be a regret the organization holds onto for along time. With a huge name like LaMelo Ball, the Hornets could miss out on so much economic opportunity. As a prospect with a TV and a easily-viral family missing out on Ball would keep the team as only a small-market team.

The pick can add another young piece to build a talented roster to develop together into dominance. The great guard tandem of Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham with the ever talented PJ Washington would be beneficial to add a fourth young star and create chemistry between the young players.

Obviously the potential of all of these young players currently on the roster is a reason that trading away assets would affect the rebuild process in a negative way. To force the young core of the team with a veteraned star could be detrimental to the Hornets future.
