Charlotte Hornets: Bring Anthony Edwards in at all costs
Anthony Edwards should be priority number one for the Charlotte Hornets with their number three NBA draft pick.
The Charlotte Hornets have the number three overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft and Anthony Edwards should be the organization’s number one target. Edwards is a once in a generation talent and the Hornets should be doing everything they can to secure Edwards.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have the number one pick and with the Golden State Warriors shopping their second overall pick to the San Antonio Spurs for LaMarcus Aldrige. This leaves the Hornets at a premium spot to pick up the SEC talent.
The Timberwolves are definitely eyeing Edwards with their pick but with rumors of LaMelo being on the top of their draft board, Edwards could fall to Swarm City. Edwards isn’t likely to be taken by the Warriors or the Spurs because both rosters have starting guards on their teams: Steph Curry and Klay Thompson for the Warriors, and Patty Mills and Dejounte Murray.
According to Jonathon Giveny of ESPN(ESPN+ required):
"“Most NBA front offices are operating under the assumption that Ball is going No. 1 — either to the Minnesota Timberwolves or a team that trades up to select him.”"
Edwards brings so many talents and skills to the table as a prospect and the Charlotte Hornets cannot pass on him this NBA Draft.
Offensively Anthony Edwards is extremely solid with 19 points and nearly three assists per game. Edwards is explosive with the ball in his hands with a high shooting percentage within the arch. Edwards shot 40 percent from the field for the Georgia Bulldogs. Edwards was the fourth highest scorer in the SEC in his freshman debut and looks to carry his skills to the NBA.
Edwards is really talented as a defensive guard. Edwards averaged one steal and almost one block per game, and he ranked 11th in the SEC in steals. Edwards is also good on the defensive boards, where he gets it off the glass four times per contest. As a guard, Edwards can be a major piece to a strong defensive lineup.
For me, I want to pick up either Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball and it looks like Ball may go to Minnesota first. That being said, the Hornets have to make an attempt to secure Edwards and not let him go to Golden State(or the suitor for their pick).
Edwards was absolutely a college phenom and to pass on him would be a colossal mistake for the Hornets. The Hornets could use Edwards skills and talents to continue to improve their roster.
Edwards does add yet another guard to the roster, where the organization has quite a few. I would even consider trading Tery Rozier and a few other assets for an established veteran at the four or five positions to have a legitimate roster.
