Cons of the Charlotte Hornets signing Gordon Hayward in this NBA Free Agency

So paying Gordon Hayward the reported $160 million dollars over the next four years is quite a pretty penny. The signing came as surprise and the dollar amount is even more breathtaking.

Hayward is a very capable player and can continue his pre-injury success on the court as his averages have increased drastically since he dislocated his ankle. But $160 million dollars is ALOT of money and is crazy considering this deal will make him one of the highest-paid players in the NBA, again.

I think Hayward is super talented and pre-injury he’s definitely worth the maximum contract but I’m wary of signing him to this maximum contract just because he’s lifting his averages since his inury. To make him one of the highest-paid players in the league is a tough pill for myself and many Charlotte fans to swallow.

The signing of Gordon Hayward brings depth to the wing position but it doesn’t particularly address the franchises’ biggest problem, the lack of talent at the center position. I assumed that the Hornets were going to pursue Serge Ibaka or Hassan Whiteside and adding a small forward solves none of Charlotte’s questions at the big man position.

Adding Gordon Hayward for me is fine. I’m content with the signing as he is a great player but we are paying him an exorbitant amount for someone who doesn’t solve the team’s biggest problem. Let’s see how the season goes and hope adding Hayward creates a playoff-contending starting lineup.
