Charlotte Hornets starting lineup: Locks, fringe and potential break-ins
Potential break-ins for the Charlotte Hornets starting lineup
Malik Monk, Vernon Carey Jr, Cody Zeller
Now the chances of Malik Monk breaking into a starting role at guard is very improbably, considering that there are so many talented guards on the roster. Monk is committing to improve for the Hornets and to become a legitimate player, then I would say that anything is possible. Monk only averaged ten points per game and will likely stay as a roleplayer for Charlotte.
Vernon Carey Jr was one of the best players in college basketball last season and was a Wooden Award candidate. Carey Jr averaged 17 points, eight rebounds and over a block per contest for the Blue Devils. Carey has reportedly been improving his three-point shot and has lost weight ahead of this NBA season. Carey may have “traditional” moves as a big but those old techniques may be a good throwback for the league and the change of offense can throw off opposing defenses.
Cody Zeller has been beloved across Swarm City and he can still very well be the starting center next season. Zeller averaged 11 points and seven rebounds last season and started most of the season as the center. Zeller is a seven-year veteran and he can still be a starter but his potential as a solid starter has been greatly diminished throughout his career.
