A Hornets Carol: Ghosts of past, present and future
The Hornets ghost of Yet to Come will show fans a future concern in the next few seasons…the abundance of young talent.
This one is a little harder to feel out, but as the Hornets have been able to pick up young talent throughout the years it will be extremely challenging for the franchise to keep these young guys happy.
When I say this I mean what will happen when in two years Miles Bridges is sick of coming off the bench and wants to receive a major payday. Now I actually think Bridges should be a starter, but as a young guy he will want to be paid as much as other talented guys on the roster and if the organization doesn’t fulfill that, he may leave…and so can other young guys.
Aside from Bridges, Malik Monk is a good young guard who probably won’t receive as much playing time as he feels he deserves. Monk will have to fight rookie LaMelo Ball for minutes and with Ball selling tickets the way he does, I don’t see Monk becoming a bigger part of the team. Monk hasn’t been amazing in his tenure with the Hornets but still has plenty of basketball left in him. Monk may feel unappreciated and decide to jump ship for money because of all the talent we have at the guard position.
On the same foot, Terry Rozier has been playing the best basketball of his career in Charlotte. Rozier’s offensive and defensive abilities have risen to new levels with career-highs across the board after being given a shot by Queen City. Rozier left Boston knowing he could be a quality starting center in today’s NBA and who knows how he’ll feel if that spot is given to LaMelo Ball. A disgruntled Rozier can make his way out of Charlotte if he desires. Rozier already had a stint of unfollowing the team on Twitter as well as liking tweets referring to a Rozier deal to the Clippers.
We already had to watch Dwayne Bacon walk to Orlando. Obviously, he isn’t a super talent but he was a good player and was developing good skills in Charlotte and the franchise just ran out of guard minutes and had to let him go.
For right now this isn’t a huge issue but because of the massive amount of young talent on the roster, the team will have to move on from some players and that’s if the players don’t make that decision themselves.
