Way to early predictions: The 4 Charlotte Hornets expiring contracts
Will the Charlotte Hornets give Malik Monk the chance at a contract extension?
So Malik Monk has been constantly improving in Charlotte since being drafted by the team in 2017. Last season Monk even averaged ten points with a couple of rebounds and assists per game. His addition to the Hornets bench was undeniable but that was before the Hornets drafted rookie sensation LaMelo Ball.
Now with LaMelo Ball on the bench, many of Monk’s minutes have been allotted to him and following Monk’s positive test with the Coronavirus, Monk missed a chunk of the preseason. The virus reportedly affects players’ stamina, so at first, the team was just going easy on Monk for the sake of his health, but at this point, I’m not sure what’s happening.
Monk has seemed to go by the wayside and the team probably won’t devote a lot of time to the further progression of his skills, BUT the Hornets would be ludicrous to overlook his worth. Charlotte should know that Monk is still a young talent with upside but looking for a home to give him significant minutes. Now Monk isn’t a major trade target but I predict when the team starts to shop him, there will be many suitors. I bet Monk will be traded before the end of the season and Monk will get an opportunity to be a big part of a team’s future somewhere else.
