Will the Charlotte Hornets make the right decision with Cody Zeller’s contract?
Cody Zeller is one of the most beloved players of the Hornets roster, but even the most devoted fan will admit that the franchise is paying him to much money. Zeller is earning a whopping 15 million dollars a year to only really be a good roleplayer at the center position. Zeller, I think, would be a great backup big man anywhere in the league. But to pay Zeller as a starter for any longer is a mistake that the Hornets cannot make again.
I understand that the city and it’s fans have grown to love the big man, I actually hope the team retains his contract but it’s all a matter of money. If Zeller and the Hornets don’t see eye-to-eye on his worth then the franchise will have to let him walk.
Whether Zeller is helping develop younger talents like Jalen McDaniels or Vernon Carey, or if he is still the full-fledged starter, he still deserves a significant demotion. I predict that the Hornets will keep Zeller on a significantly smaller contract and he will help develop young big men.
