What Admiral Schofield brings to the table for the Greensboro Swarm

Admiral Schofield was picked number one in the G-League draft, let’s analyze what he brings to the table for the Greensboro Swarm

Admiral Schofield was drafted first overall for the Greensboro Swarm, the affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, in this year’s NBA G-League draft. Schofield comes off of a season averaging 16 points per game, a handful of rebounds and two assists for the Was… sorry Capital City Go-Go.

Schofield is a University of Tennessee alum and was an All-SEC player for the Volunteers, averaging over 16 points per game. Schofield’s addition to the Swarm solidifies their depth at the guard position. The Swarm had five guards, not including Dwayne Bacon, and adding Schofield makes guard minutes far and in-between. It also doesn’t help that the Hornets drafted College of Charleston guard Grant Riller.

Schofield can no doubt make the Swarm a much better basketball team this year. Greensboro went 9-34 last season, ending at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. For a developmental team, not even winning ten games sure doesn’t look good for the Hornets.

Schofield did shoot very well in college, ranking fifth in the SEC with an impressive 47 percent from the field. That improved shooting can do wonders for the Swarm considering they were second to last in the G-League in shooting percentage.

Schofield also ranked in the top-20 in the SEC for defensive rating(ranking sixth and 18th). Greensboro ranked in the middle of the league in terms of steals per game, so his addition should make them an even better team on defense.

Schofield won’t make enough of a splash in the G-Leauge to make it to the Hornet’s full roster. With a locker room full of guards including LaMelo Ball, Devonte’ Graham and Terry Rozier, Schofield would have to average 30 points per game to get him any minutes for Charlotte. The Hornets are struggling to give players like Malik Monk guard minutes, so Schofield doesn’t stand a chance to get any NBA action as he did in Washington.

The Swarm may make further moves to solidify their roster and go for the G-League championship but we’ll see how that endeavor goes.
