Charlotte Hornets trades with Cavaliers: Trade for Jarrett Allen

Out of the three Cleveland Cavaliers’ centers, Jarrett Allen is the most coveted by Charlotte Hornets’ fans. However, acquiring Allen is the least likely option of the three. The Cavaliers didn’t give up a first-round draft pick to get Allen just to trade him away.

Even before the trade to acquire Allen, the Cavaliers were likely to move away from Andre Drummond at the end of this season. Drummond is five years younger than Allen, and keeping Allen instead of Drummond past this season will be the cheaper option.

For the Hornets to pry Allen away, it’s going to take more than a simple swamp with Malik Monk with the addition on a first-round pick.

Here’s a proposal that I believe that the Cavaliers would be open to to send Allen to the Hornets:

The prize in this trade for the Hornets is Allen, and they would be foolish to think they would get anything else. I believe it will take another player plus at least two first-round draft picks to open the Cavaliers up to the idea of giving Allen up. In this scenario, again, the Hornets make a choice between PJ Washington and Miles Bridges. At this point in time, I believe the Hornets will pick Washington to keep over Bridges in any trade scenario.

Unfortunately, included in this scenario is the Hornets taking back from the Cavaliers, guard Dylan Windler. Windler hasn’t done much since he was selected with the 26th pick in the 2019 draft by the Cavaliers; maybe the change in scenery will be good for him.

The dream would be for the Hornets to land Allen. Realistically, the Hornets have a better chance at acquiring JaVale McGee or Drummond. What the Hornets are willing to give up in return is what will determine which Cavaliers’ center they will get.
