The Charlotte Hornets could target Kevin Porter Jr. if they’re interested.

The Charlotte Hornets are searching for ways to improve their team. The NBA’s trade deadline is only two months away, so the Hornets have more than enough time to find something right.

If Charlotte is looking for someone to trade for, the team could look at going after Kevin Porter Jr. On Monday, ESPN sources confirmed that the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to trade or waive Porter Jr. after a locker room altercation.

More from Swarm and Sting

This altercation came after Porter Jr. returned after personal reasons. It was reported that Porter Jr. was distraught because the Cavaliers moved him to an auxiliary area to accommodate his new teammate Taurean Prince.

Prince recently joined the team after he was apart of a blockbuster trade that sent him and Jarrett Allen to Cleveland.

Porter Jr. was the Cavaliers lottery pick last year. As a rookie, Porter Jr. averaged 10 points, 2.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He shot 42% from the floor and appeared in the starting lineup three times.

Moreover, Porter Jr. has not received any playing time this season so far. He’s been out for the entire season so far due to the abovementioned personal reasons.

Porter Jr. has been involved in a bit of drama over the past year. He was involved in a crash on Nov. 15 during the middle of the night. Porter Jr. stated that he had been drinking earlier that night. Police also found a weapon in his car when they arrived at the scene. A grand jury later declined to indict Porter Jr. on the charges of a felony weapons charge after proving he was unaware the gun was in the car.

If the Hornets traded for him, the team would have more depth at the two and three spots. Coach James Borrego would have to seriously do some tweaking to his rotation to give him playing time.

Porter Jr. has potential, and the Hornets would be getting young talent if they acquire him. Porter Jr. is set to become a restricted free agent in 2023. His contract would definitely work for Charlotte.
